March sees most UK salmon rivers open, while the start of the trout season gets under way in some regions.
Salmon catches have been improving on rivers. FishTweedreported 66 salmon up to 20lb. The Tay has had its best week so far with 49 salmon reported, the largest a salmon of 24 lbs. The Tyne have reported 63 salmon up to 23lb. The Nith not particularly known for its spring run, has reported that there are fresh run fish to be caught for those who venture out.
Cumbrian river Eden, now online, has reported salmon up to 27lb during the last week. FishPal consultant & writer Paul Procter has been out fishing the Eden, catching a few sizeable trout up to 2lb 12oz.
John Aplin, from the river Fromein Dorset says that they have had probably one of the best winter grayling seasons. The brown trout season begins on April 1st on many chalk rivers and anglers can now book fishing online .
