Brilliant July Fishing as the Rains still continue!
Blackwater Lodge (AKA Noah's Ark) Newsletter - July 13, 2012
Some quality Fish
This is probably the Largest Ever First Salmon that has been caught on the Lodge Fishery. It was taken Monday July 9th. on Woodstream on the upper river (over 20 miles upstream of the Lodge).
It was caught on spinner by 19 year old Dan Kadlubowski (UK) on his first day ever salmon fishing. He very sportingly released the fish alive. It is also the Second Largest Fish of the Season.
Stefan Kadlubowski released this 9½ pounder on fly on the Wood Flat on Woodstream.
There were 3 fish all between 10 - 11lb.caught for 3 rod days yesterday (Thursday 12th.).
This was 11 years young James Shanahan with his Second Ever Salmon which weighed 11lb. & was taken on spinner at the Junction Pool on Bridgetown Abbey.
He had caught his very First Salmononly 2 days before when he landed a 4.3lb. fish on spinner on Ballincurrig.
Glenda spent half a day guiding a party of three complete beginners to fishing today (Friday 13th!)- father Padraig & sons James & Eamon O'Keeffe from Glanmire in Cork.
She took them to Lower Kilmurry where two of them caught their First Ever Salmon. This is a very happy James with his 13 pounderwhich took 45 minutes to land.Father Padraig caught a sea-liced 6 pounder.
Both fish were released alive.
The Advantage of a large spread-out FisheryOne of the reasons why we are so successful in catching fish in such conditions is that we havea great variety of fishing on the upper river with our 8 beats spread out
from Ballyhooly to Mallow.Of the 62 fish caught so far for July, just 12 were taken on the lower river where we have 5 beats. The other 50 were all caught on the upper beats.
ProspectsWith the high water continuing into July, excellent runs of fish continue to come in & sea-liced fish are being caught right up to the upper reaches of the river.
There are some excellent quality fish running too, with a lot of those caught being around the 9lb. mark & our best this month is again 13lb.
I have reports at lunchtime today of a sea-liced 6 lb. fish already from Ballyhooly as well as Glenda's party's two fish. Prospects for sport in the coming weeks are absolutely superb!
AvailabilityThere is no problem at the moment for availability for fishing and accommodation in the coming weeks.September is starting to fill up, and availability of self-catering accommodation is already very limited.
We still have space available for the extension of the season to October 12.
