Best Day of the 2011 Season - September 7th.
Current Conditions
This has been the driest summer for the last 5 years. Finally - as we come into September there has been some break in the weather.
Following some moderate rainfall, the upper river rose 35cm at Millstreet (90km upstream), the highest it has been since July 18.
The lower river rose to 0.35m - it's highest level since July 20th.
Although it was only a rather small rise, it got fish moving & stirred up the residents - particularly on the upper river.
Best Day this year!
Our previous Best Day was July 20 after the last small flood when 10 fish were caught.
Yesterday (September 7th.), fish were moving on both the lower & upper river and taking freely.
A total of 20 fish were caught by just 8 rods yesterday, of which 17 were released.
On the upper river, Clarity went down to about 2 feet but spinner proved very effective & 13 fish were caught above.
Two upper beats recorded 6 fish each, including a couple of 10 pounders. All but one were released.
One rod landed seven fish.
On the lower river where clarity was better at ~4 feet, seven fish to 8lb. were caught.
One rod had 3 on fly, and another one had one on spinner & landed another & lost 2 all on fly as well.
