FISHING REPORTS - June 7, 2017

LAKES

Rainbow Alley fishing has been on and off. Some nice fish being caught though, mostly on minnow patters. Fishing tends to be best later at night. Be prepared for bugs!

SKEENA

The Skeena is still very brown but is slowly clearing up and has started to drop. There are some banks appearing on Ferry Island now. For those who have tried, fishing has been very slow. Most anglers are trying the Kalum or Kitimat.

KITIMAT

River is dropping and has about 2 feet visibility. Some nice 10-15 lbs chinook have been caught lately.

KISPIOX

Closed for fishing until June 16, 2016

BABINE RIVER

Closed for fishing until June 16, 2016

BULKLEY & MORICE RIVERS

Closed for fishing until June 16, 2016

SALTWATER

Good fishing = Good times and the fishing has been great!

We have seen some great fishing over the past week.  Prince Rupert continues to see good returns and we are starting to see some bigger fish being caught.  We have seen a few fish in the low 30's caught over the past week and will most likely see more of these fish in the coming weeks. Anglers are encouraged to put any of these bigger fish back in the water to let them return to their home rivers to spawn. Grab a good picture and let it continue it's journey so we can continue to have these big fish returning in the future. South Melville Island has been productive and so has Squatarie all the way down to Edye Pass. Humphack Bay is another place to try that can see very good fishing.  Cut plugs and anchovies are working well right now and Oscars has a good supply of both.

Out of Kitimat, the fishing has been great with lots of chinook being landed and we have even seen a few coho being caught. The south Sue channel has been good on the slack tide but we've seen the bite die off when the tide is running so try and fish the slack for your best chance at a good bite. We've also seen Money Point being very good.  Again, cut plugs and anchovies are the bait of choice right now and Oscars even has a jig to help you cut the perfect plug if you are new to cut plugging. They also have pre-tied cut plug rigs if you're not familiar with tying your own. It's always good to have a selection of spoons in the box if the fish are not hitting on bait and Oscars has a good supply to choose from.

The Bottom fishing has been great along the coast. The weather was supposed to take a turn for the worse and keep guys from getting out to the halibut grounds but the storm never hit. Guys were able to get out and things were very productive! We have seen a bunch of halibut taken in the upper reaches of the slot limit this week and have seen a bunch of fish bigger than 133cm released.

Prawning has been decent on the coast and as always, the crabbing has been great.

Head down to Oscars and let the crew there help you out with any advice and gear that you might need when heading out to the chuck. We will have another report for you next week so until then get out there and enjoy the great fishing .....tight lines
