Dear AnglerThe last few weeks have seen records broken for beats, rivers and anglers. With over a million page views and a miriad of UK & international telephone calls and emails, the team at FishPal HQ have been busy, fulfilling anglers fishing requirements and working with owners to add their available fishing, ready for the start of the 2014 season.Congratulations to Shamus Jennings fishing Tweed. His 50lb Boleside salmon is the biggest on Tweed and possibly the largest in Scotland since Lady Ward's Tay salmon in 1928. Fairnilee have beaten their beat record, dating back to the 1980's. Upper Caberston angler Mr Ray (82) set a new beat record with a salmon measuring 49in length & girth 28in. The Tay have enjoyed an outstanding year, smashing their 5 year catch record, including a very big fish to finish the season from Kenny Miller jnr, his fish of a lifetime at 45lb on Kercock. Tay beats Newtyle, Murthly, Dunkeld House, Cargill and many more have surpassed their 5 year catch average. Iceland's 2013 salmon season is the fourth highest on record. FishIceland's Jon Sigurdsson continues his 6 part series of places to fish in Iceland during 2014 with the River Sog. 50lb Salmon on Tweed![]() Shamus couldn't believe his eyes when he eventually brought the massive fish to the net: "It's taken me almost 40 years to catch a 25 pounder, (which he caught the day before on the same beat) but this is simply incredible," said Shamus who has fished for salmon all over the world - read more ITV News interviewed Shamus Jennings, Nigel Fell (pictured) and Tom Carter this week at Boleside, you can see the broadcast here Boleside only have only 3 rods left until the end of the season, the beat have caught 156 salmon so far this month (November) - availability Autumn Affordable Favourites![]() September through to November are the prime months for salmon on the Nith.The watchword when autumn fishing on the Nith is to carry both a spinning rod and a fly rod to get the best out of the river. Day permits start from £30 - availability. The salmon season on the Annan goes on right through to the 30th November. The fishing will often be interrupted by spates but each fresh influx of water will bring fish off the tide. Day permits start from £20 - availability. The two tributaries of bottom Tweed are productive rivers in their own right - Whiteadder and Till. FishPal's Anne Woodcock enjoyed a day on the Till at lightly fished Tiptoe beat last Saturday and caught fish. Day permits start from £45. Salmon fishing on The Sog River![]() Salmon fishing on the Sog, 65km east of Reykjavik, starts from £200 per rod per day and includes accommodation. Home to many 20-pounders; the river is recognised as one of the finest salmon rivers in Iceland, enjoying a high percentage of multi-sea-wintered salmon. 2010 was a record breaking season with 1,300 salmon. The river offers a total 13 rods across 6 private beats. Bildfells beat is the most productive with 300 to 400 salmon caught annually. The river holds a good head of Arctic char, with fish to 8-9 pounds caught yearly. The salmon season on Sog runs from June to September.
