Steelhead og Chinook, Canada - Salmon Junkies 2016

Dear Salmonjunkies,

We are now opening bookings for our spring Steelhead and Chinook program 2016, where we will be chasing the largest and meanest Steelhead and Chinook in the world.

We have secured full exclusivity for the European market.  That means you will now be able to fish Skeena main stem and select tributaries in a FULL 6 day package in the company of some of the best and most hardcore Canadian Steelhead and Chinook guides available.

Skeena: Super-sized Steelhead and world record Chinook:
Skeena. It is a powerful and evocative word. To the indigenous peoples of British Columbia’s north coast region it is the “River of Mists.”

To fly fishers around the globe it is a dream destination offering nearly boundless opportunities to pursue what are among the largest sea-run fish on the planet. In Skeena country early spring typically offers the year’s most dependable conditions for tempting Steelhead with a fly.

During late March and early April, as winter gives way to spring, precipitation falls as snow on the ridges and the rivers remain at winter height; flowing low and green in the valley bottoms and warming slowly with each lengthening day.

The conditions are perfect for swinging big swimming flies on sinking tip lines and triggering the natural aggression of the Skeena’s legendary super-sized Steelhead.

Best Spring Steelhead and Chinook Program on the Planet:
Many people believe that the Skeena watershed is easily accessible with easy-going fishing, but that is not the case if you want to get to the fish.

Many of the best rivers and spots are more or less impossible to access without a guide, and the only way to get there is by power full jet boat and local knowledge.

Some of the most attractive rivers are licensed with limited access for only a small number of people. Salmon Junkies has access to all classified water plus well-selected numbers of coastal rivers.

Skeena has become quite a popular destination, even more so after we launched our short movie, but to fish it requires extremely talented guides who can maneuver and pick the right spots for any given time or situation.

We dare to say that we have the best team of Steelhead guides and they are willing to share their deepest secrets by leading you to the fish.

There is a fine line between success and failure when fishing the Skeena and we have got it right.  That is exactly why we believe that Salmon Junkies has tailored the best spring Steelhead and Chinook program on the Planet.

Fishing Report, October 28, 2015

Bulkley & Morice Rivers

Morice and Bulkley are both a bit high but have been dropping and clearing every day. Water democratize is dropping quickly.

Water temperature on the Bulkley is 39F. Heavy frost on Monday night and now we have snow/rain this morning which will probably bump up the levels again.

Kispiox

River is in good shape; both levels and clarity. Steelheading has been good but with the heavy frost Monday night, and snow/rain this morning conditions are less than ideal.

Kitimat

River is in beautiful shape. Coho retention ends October 31st as most fish are spawned out. Nov 1- Dec 31 is no fishing for Coho. Now its mostly trout fishing.

Lower Skeena

Water level is still high but clarity is good. Skeena at Usk is 3.8m. Fishing has been slow for most but hopefully will pick up now that the river is clearing.

Fishing Report, October 13, 2015

Babine River

Upper river is clear but downstream is still quite dirty. Steelheading has been good.

Bulkley & Morice Rivers

Heavy rains blew out the Bulkley on the weekend and levels rose by almost a meter. In the last couple days it has started to drop and the Bulkley below the Telkwa has 2 feet visibility and above the Telkwa is even better. However, more rain is in the forecast.

Morice also rose by almost a meter but has started to clear. It has about 2 feet visibility and the boat-launch is usable. People are hooking a couple fish a day.

Kispiox

River is starting to drop but is still high and murky. Some people are out fishing with a bit of luck.

Kitimat

As of Tuesday the river was fishable, but it did rain quite a bit Tuesday afternoon which may put the river out again. Coho are still running but more are turning red.

Lower Skeena

Skeena river is high and dirty. Heavy rains caused a slide on the Copper and it is mud. The Kalum is murky. Most of the other tributaries are also high and dirty.

Fishing Report, October 20, 2015

Lakes

A new dock has been put in at Ross Lake near Hazelton. This creates a great platform to practice your fly-casting or take your kids out for some fishing fun. Couple of 14" Cutthroats were caught last week trolling leach flies.

Bulkley & Morice Rivers

Bulkley and Morice have both dropped a couple inches since Sunday but are still high. Water is slightly coloured but definitely fishable. Fishing for Steelhead has been ok.

Kispiox

Water clarity is pretty good. Water is still high- around 1.42m but dropping.

Lower Skeena

Skeena is high and dirty. 6" visibility. There is access to China Bar, but not many are fishing the dirty waters. Lakelse River has been fishing great for Coho.
